John Lloyd

John Lloyd (British, 1811-1865) attended Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. According to the local history society in Ruthin, Wales, "he did not pursue a formal career but was said to be a humorous poet, an excellent painter and a skilled photographer." In 1863, he served as High Sheriff of Denbighshire, Wales. An amateur photographer active from 1857-62, he used the wet plate process exclusively. His topographical works include views of his house, Rhagatt, and the region around it in Wales. Lloyd also produced portraits and allegorical studies. He died on 22nd May, 1865, only...
